'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'
A hot and humid night in Bonaventure cemetery. Mist covers the ground. It is midnight, the time in voodoo between the hour for good magic, and the hour for bad magic. The air is filled with the cloying scent of roses, at that tipping point between sweetness and decay.
This collection is inspired by a visit to Savannah, the Antebellum jewel of America's deep South. Colours range from the pale tones of the full-blown Souvenir de Malmaison roses and the heavy Madonna lilies that filled the gardens, to the glaucus greens of the Spanish moss trailing from the live oaks in the cemetery. Translucent silk organzas and trailing silk crepes are translated into forms that thread the line between ripeness and morbidity, innocence and dissolution, purity and decadence.
