Andreja Bistricic and Maja Merlic are the designers behind the creative label DIORALOP and were recently awarded the prestigious Best young designers ELLE Magazine Style Award. The Croatian duo met in Zagreb, which led to the launch of their label. Andreja obtained her degree at Faculty of Textile and Technology in Zagreb/Croatia. She then went onto graduate from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in 2009 specializing in womenswear, whilst expanding her knowledge interning at the Alexander McQueen studio. Maja is an architect, with strong sense of texture and style.
Their first fashion show was at HTC Cro A Porter - DIORALOP A/W 2012/2013 and has received critical acclaim. The design duo have gone on to show at Cro A Porter every season since. DIORALOP was at the International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week 2012 and CAPSULE fashion fair in Paris.
DIORALOP’s collections are inspired by Polaroid pictures, which were created through intentional chemical spills, and their exposure to different temperatures. This technique yields various colours and patterns, which are digitally printed in the UK, using a variety of luxurious fabrics. Inspiration is drawn from subcultures, street fashion and issues with an emotional impact. Andreja’s taste for cut and deconstruction are perfectly balanced by Maja’s vision of print and textile manipulation. Every season the designers like to tell stories in different ways, using ambiguous fabrics, proportion and silhouette. DIORALOP’s designs are for person that is uncompromising, aware and individual.
DIORALOP will be showcasing their new collection at The Zeitgeist show on Thursday 13th June.
